Pelican hooks are used as components of chain stoppers, including anchor chain stoppers. The hooks are intended to prevent chain releasing in voyage. The swing bar of the pelican hook is secured by a special link grabbing the bar over its nose. If necessary, the pelican hook allows quickly releasing the load or line even in case of tight chain by pushing back the link.
